Kannada films, which have a minuscule presence in the US are finding their feet, thanks to Rangi Taranga.

Here are the top facts to know about the trail blazer movie - Rangi Taranga.

1) Rangi Taranga, ran to packed houses in 30 screens across the US. Bangalore Mirror reports that it became the the first Kannada film to feature in New York Times weekend box-office list, though at  the 27th place,

2) Rangi Taranga made about Rs 1.3 crore in the US, not much; but a lot when you look at the budget at which it was made - Rs 1.5 crore,

3) The film was released in the US by Ajay Reddy, who released Bahubali. Thanks to him, Rangi Taranga could open in a large number of screens.

4) Rangi Taranga is releasing in Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Malaysia.

5) Rangi Taranga benefited from social media chatter. It was one of the most talked about Kannada films on Twitter and Facebook in recent times.  Over 5,000 users gave it a rating of 9.4/10 on IMDB.

6) It is a thriller written and directed by Anup Bhandari - his first full-length feature film. Anup Bhandari also composed music and wrote lyrics. Majority of the cast, Nirup Bhandari, Avantika Shetty and Radhika Chethan were debutantes. Veteran Sai Kumar also starred in  a key role.

7) Two American cinematographers Lance Kaplan and William David shot the movie.

8) Set in Kamarottu, a fictional village in the Dakshina Kannada, Rangi Taranga tells the quest of a man to find his missing wife and the trail of crime he uncovers along the way.

9) The movie was shot in Mysore, Bangalore, Madikeri, Puttur, Sira, Ottapalam, Alappuzha and Ooty.

10) The film was inspired by "Dennana Dennana", the theme song of the 1990s Kannada television soap Guddada Bhoota.
