The Krishna temple at Muscat, which got land thanks to Vajpayee |
The Telegraph reports that he conveyed to Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the ruler, the request of the Indian community to build a temple.
Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who believes in Hindu rituals, readily gave land on which a Krishna temple came up.
Last year, the Sultan, who is suffering from cancer, had invited vedic brahmins from India to perform a homa hoping for a cure. Oman has one more temple, of Shiva, which was built by Gujarati merchants 350 years ago.
Interestingly, no other Indian leader was willing to take up the demand for Krishna temple land fearing it may not go down well with the secular image of the country.
