From a lowly HR consultant to the short-lived but controversial rise to the stratosphere of Indian TV industry to police custody, Indrani Mukerjea's life has been dramatic.
Her marriage, rather her second marriage, was a turning point. In 2002, Indrani Mukerjea married Star TV boss Peter Mukerjea. Both of them had been married earlier and an age gap of 16 years separated them.
She was 30 and he, 46. She had a five year old child and he had two nearly grownup sons. But the marriage was a success. He went on to make Star the player it is today and gave India one of its greatest shows, KBC.
In 2007, the couple went on their own and started 9X media. Indrani with 51% stake was Founder and CEO and Peter, demoted himself to the Chief Strategy Officer to report to his wife.
The venture was well-funded but floundered, saw some acrimony, which involved the ousting of Vir Sanghvi and his friends from the company. There were allegations that Indrani Mukerjea had tried to use strong arm tactics, physically intimidate some of the dissenting employees.
The company was quickly sold off and one of its channels survives today as NewsX.
Indrani Mukerjea retreated from high-profile ventures but the marriage clicked . Both had married with high expectations and lived up to them.
The seemingly quiet life again got jolted when the police came knocking in on Tuesday.
