Sylvester Stallone secretly flew his family members to Kankhal, Haridwar, to perform tithi shradh for his son Sage, who died in 2012.
It is believed that persons who die due to unnatural causes such as accident or murder find themselves trapped in an inconsolable environment. Tithi shradh is performed to pacify their souls and provide them peace after death.
Sage, who was just 36, had reportedly died of a drug overdose.
The Times of India reports that Stallone's half-brother Michael, his wife and two others performed the ritual on October 10 and returned to Philadelphia. Stallone did not come himself as he reportedly wanted to avoid a media frenzy.
According to media reports Stallone, who was extremely disturbed after his son's death, had tried to get in touch with seances to talk with his son. He had also believed that he was seeing the sightings of his dead son.
After consulting Prateek Mishrapuri, an astrologer form Haridwar, who was visiting Los Angeles, he decided to perform tithi shradh to pacify his dead son's soul.
