After the event, he made a statement to the media on the selfless work of the volunteers. It was then a TV journalist asked him about the raging controversy over the 'Beep Song'.
Ilayaraja became furious and asked the journalist if he had any sense to pose a question that was not relevant to the occasion. As the journalist held his ground, Ilayaraja repeated his question till others intervened to separate the two.
Tamil actor Simbu and 'Kolaveri Di' fame music composer R Anirudh have landed in trouble for singing and composing music for a video 'Beep Song' with highly objectionable references to women.
The Consortium of Journalists in India (CJI) issued a statement n Friday condemning veteran music composer's statement.
"If he (Ilayarajah) didn’t want to respond, he should have avoided replying to the question. Instead, he degraded his credibility by abusing the journalist, which cannot be accepted by any media personality," CJI said in a statement.
