Noted dancer Bhanumathi Rao performed graceful Bharatanatyam on December 5 in Bangalore, a day after she turned 92.
The poise and physical agility she demonstrated at a function organised by Upaasana Academy Of Classical Dance & Music stunned viewers who struggled to guess her age.
Bhanumathi Rao, an accomplished Bharatanatyam and Kathakali dancer, proved that age was just a stupid number that eats your head.
She has passed on her stellar legacy to her daughter Maya Krishna Rao, a noted theatre personality in her own right.
A founder-member of the street theatre group Theatre Union, Maya has scripted, directed, and performed several powerful street plays.
She won a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Indian theatre, which she returned recently to protest growing intolerance in India.
