Pune Police have made a serious allegation that IT major Infosys did not report the alleged rape that occurred on its Pune campus on Sunday, until the victim lodged a complaint.
Inspector S P Bhosale of the Hinjewadi police station told Mid Day: "We could not believe that the company was mum on this issue until the victim approached us."
"We have questioned the company about the security lapse, but they are not ready to accept responsibility," he added.
The alleged incident occurred at 5.30 pm on Sunday. The police got to know about it on Monday morning when the survivor lodged a complaint at Hinjewadi police station. They acted quickly and arrested the two accused Paritosh Bagh aka Purshottam (21) and Prakash Mahadik (30).
Mid Day spoke to the victim and recorded the trauma she went through.
The 25-year-old victim worked as a cashier at Infosys campus canteen. One of accused barged into the toilet and raped her, while the other man filmed it with his mobile phone. They also threatened her that they would make the pictures public if she complained to the police.
Severely traumatised, the survivor called her husband, who works as a peon at another company and asked him to pick her up.
Mid Day notes that as the survivor waited at the gates for him, she "...narrated her ordeal with a female security guard, and the news of the crime spread to other employees."
The survivor is even quoted saying a few company officials approached her and asked her to go home and return the next day to discuss the matter.
She informed her husband about the alleged crime and went to a government hospital for check up and then on Monday morning, to the police to file complaint.
The woman, who had recently migrated from a village in Yevatmal, did not possibly know that she had to report the alleged crime to company higher ups, It is also not clear if the information trickled up to anyone responsible in the company.
Infosys told NewsCrunch that it did not want to comment as police were investigating the alleged crime.
